Should You Repair or Recycle Broken Monitors?

It can be really frustrating when a monitor stops working, especially since many of us rely on multiple screens these days. A friend of mine recently found himself with two broken monitors and is torn between trying to fix them himself or just recycling them.

I’ve heard about some successful DIY repairs, particularly for common problems like power supply issues or flickering screens. On the flip side, recycling is a responsible option, especially given the growing concerns about electronic waste. Plus, it could help clear some space for new tech.

What approaches have you taken with your broken monitors? Do you think it’s worth trying to repair them, or is recycling the better choice?

I’ve had a couple of monitors go out, and I tried fixing one myself. It turned out to be a loose cable, so that was an easy win! But the other one was beyond saving, so I recycled it. Sometimes it’s just not worth the hassle if it’s an older model.

I’ve had a couple of old monitors that were flickering, and I found that just replacing the capacitors was an easy fix for one of them. If it’s a minor issue, DIY can be totally worth it, but if it’s beyond that, recycling makes a lot of sense. I feel like most people just end up getting new ones anyway.
