Has anyone used Zigbee for home automation?

I’ve been exploring home automation lately and keep coming across Zigbee devices. Currently, my setup includes a mix of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth gadgets, but I’ve heard that Zigbee offers better reliability and lower power usage. It’s particularly noted for smart lighting and sensors, but I’m hesitant to switch over.

For those who have worked with Zigbee, how was your setup experience? Did you encounter any compatibility issues with devices that didn’t support Zigbee? I’m especially curious about performance in larger homes and whether range is a significant concern.

What are your thoughts on Zigbee compared to other protocols? Is it truly a game changer for home automation, or are there some challenges we should be aware of?

I switched to Zigbee a while back, and honestly, I love it. The range has been solid in my two-story house, and I haven’t run into major compatibility issues, but I still have a few Wi-Fi devices lying around. Just make sure you get a good hub—makes a huge difference in performance!

I switched to Zigbee from a mix of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth last year, and honestly, the difference is huge. My smart lights work way more reliably, and battery life on sensors has been great. Range can be an issue in bigger homes, though; I had to set up a few repeaters to keep everything connected. If you’re deep into automation, it’s definitely worth considering, but just keep in mind the setup might take some tweaking.
