Does the Steam Deck still reign as the best handheld console in 2026?

With a wave of new handheld gaming devices launching recently, I’m starting to wonder if the Steam Deck still deserves its top spot. I picked mine up last year and have been really impressed with its performance and versatility. However, I’ve heard buzz about newer models boasting better graphics and battery life. For those of us who enjoy modding and tinkering, is it worth sticking with the Steam Deck, or should I think about upgrading to one of these new options?

I’ve loved exploring the Steam ecosystem and customizing my device, but I’m curious if other handhelds can match the Steam Deck in terms of software support and community-driven improvements. Has anyone made the switch to a newer model recently? What has your experience been like? Are these new devices truly worth the investment?

I got my Steam Deck last year too, and honestly, I still love it for all the games I can play and the mods I can mess with. I checked out the newer handhelds, but they don’t seem to have the same level of community support or customization yet—at least not that I’ve seen. If you’re really into modding, I’d hold onto the Deck for now!

I tried a newer model recently, and while the graphics were definitely sharper, I missed the Steam Deck’s flexibility. The modding scene is way better on Steam, plus I love how easy it is to find tweaks online. If you’re into that kind of stuff, upgrading might not be worth it yet.
