Do wireless printers need internet to work effectively?

I’m considering getting a wireless printer for my home office, but I’m a bit confused about whether it actually needs an internet connection to function well. Some people say that as long as the printer is on the same local network, it should work just fine. Others argue that an internet connection is necessary for specific features, like cloud printing and firmware updates.

I’m especially curious about how this setup impacts printing from my phone or tablet when I’m not close to the printer. Is it as simple as connecting to the same Wi-Fi network, or is there more involved? Have any of you run into situations where your printer unexpectedly required internet access?

What do you all think? Is it worth it to prioritize a model with internet capability, or can I find great options that don’t need it? I’d love to hear your recommendations!

I’ve got a wireless printer that works just fine on my local network without internet. I can print from my phone if I’m on the same Wi-Fi, but some cool features like remote printing do need internet. If you’re mostly printing while at home, just go for one that connects well locally and skip the price hike for extra internet features unless you think you’ll use them!

Wireless printers usually work fine on just the local network, but some models do need internet for things like cloud printing or updates. I’ve had issues before with my phone not connecting when I tried printing remotely because it was expecting an internet link. So I’d say if you want to print from outside your Wi-Fi range, maybe look for one that has those internet features.
